Kristan Bromley

Kristan Bromley ( born March 7, 1972 in Rossendale ) is a British skeleton bob. He is three -time European, even world champion and overall winner of the Skeleton World Cup. His most successful year he had in 2008, when he was able to win all three titles.

Kristan Bromley, who is referred to in the British media as Dr. Ice, is a doctorate at the University of Nottingham Engineering. His thesis is entitled Factors Affecting the performance of skeleton Bobsleds and thus also with respect to his sporting life. He works at the University of Bath as an assistant and operates a company that deals with ice sports. Previously, he worked at British Aerospace, among others, of composites for the Euro Fighter, but then increasingly interested in the scientific analysis of the skeleton occur during sports physical and aerodynamic phenomena. In the course of experiments to optimize the sled aerodynamics he swung himself initially as a separate test pilot on the slide and then increasingly participate in competitions.

Bromley debuted in early 1996 in a World Cup race in Winterberg ( 28 ). A year later he was able to drive for the first time in the top ten in eighth place in La Plagne. His first victory he celebrated the end of 1999 in Calgary. The 1997/98 season he finished fifth in the overall World Cup from 1999/ 2000 as a third party, 2002/ 03 in sixth and 2003/ 04, he won the overall standings and won in three of the six races of the season. 2005/ 06 he was again fifth. After a somewhat weaker 2006/07 season he won the 2007 /08 once again the overall standings of the World Cup.

1997 Bromley started for the first time at the World Championships. At the World Championships in Lake Placid, he was ninth. A year later, Bromley fifth in Lake Placid, 1999 Fourth in Altenberg. A medal he won so far only at European Championships. In both 2004 and 2005, respectively Bromley won in Altenberg the European Championship title. Since 1948 2002 the British took the first time recorded in the Olympic Program Skeleton contest and was one of the favorites in the race. Having, however, the first run only finished in 19th due to an error, also helped the fifth- best time in the second run no longer a substantial improvement and Bromley was at the end of the 13th at the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Turin Bromley finished 5th, at the Olympic Winter games 2010 in Vancouver the 6th Place. At the World Championship 2008 in Altenberg Bromley won the gold medal in his first and only World Cup medal. More good rankings were a fourth place at the World Championship in 1999 and a sixth place at the World Cup 2011.

From 1997 to 1999 Bromley won three British Championship title in a row. He finished third in 2001, 2002 second behind AJ Collins, 2003 behind Steve Anson. In 2004 and 2005 he again won the title and is the current British record holder. In 2008 he won the treble of World and European Championships and the World Cup. He was only the second pilot by Andy Schmid, the this succeeded in 1987.

Bromley lives in Bath and is coached by Richard Bromley. He's athlete ambassador of development organization Right to Play. Bromley is in a relationship with Shelley Rudman, with whom he has a daughter.
