Kristen Michal

Kristen Michal ( born July 12, 1975 in Tallinn) is an Estonian politician. He was from April 2011 to December 2012 the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Estonia.

Life and Politics

Kristen Michal graduated in 1993 from high school in Tallinn. From 1994 to 1999 he studied Social Science and Public Management at the Tallinn Pedagogical University (now University of Tallinn). Michal left the university without a degree. He studied from 2006 to 2009 Law at the private university Akadeemia North, where he obtained his bachelor's exam.

Early Michal engaged in Estonian politics. In 1996, he joined the liberal Estonian Reform Party ( Eesti Reformierakond ). From 1996 to 1999, Michal Speaker of the Reform Party in the city council of Tallinn. From 1999 to 2001, Michal Officer of the Group in the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ). 2001/2002 he was office manager of the Estonian Regional Minister Toivo Asmer. He was also a member of the City Council of Tallinn.

2002 Michal was domestic policy adviser to Prime Minister Siim Kallas for domestic policy. 2002/2003 Michal held the office of county mayor of the Tallinn district Kesklinn ( " Tallinn city center ").

2003 Michal became General Secretary of the Estonian Reform Party. From 2004 to 2007 Michal was as a deputy to the Estonian Parliament. He was re- elected in 2007, was in the same year but on its mandate in order to fully concentrate on the tasks of the Secretary-General of the Reform Party can.

From April 2011 to December 2012 was Michal in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Andrus Ansip ( Reform Party ) Minister of Justice of the Republic of Estonia.

On 30 July 2012, the Prosecutor's Office initiated a corruption case against Michal and his party colleague, the former party secretary Kalev Lillo, a. Private life

Kristen Michal lives in a non-marital cohabitation. He has two sons.
