Kristian Blak

Kristian Blak ( born March 31, 1947 in Fredericia ) is a Danish- Faroese pianist and composer. It deals both with classical music as well as jazz and rock. The nature of the Faroe Islands and the other Nordic countries (Greenland, Iceland ) exerts a major influence on his music.

Life and work

After classical music studies at Aarhus University with the degree cand mag. and work as a teacher in Aarhus moved Kristian Blak 1974 by Denmark to the Faroe Islands, where the majority of his output. From 1974 to 1998 he worked as a teacher of music and French at the secondary school of the Faroe Islands. Between 1977 and 2003 records with music with and / or by Kristian Blak have been published, most of them in the label founded by himself Tutl. Among his outstanding compositions include the suite Ravnating ( The Council of the Ravens ). Guest performances have led to several countries in Europe (including participation in festivals in Germany ) Blak. Blak sometimes occurs alone ( at the piano ), but often with groups in small and large ensembles. Since 1981 he collaborates with the fusion group Yggdrasil, with the also Eivør Pálsdóttir occurs. Furthermore, he accompanied Karsten Vogel on his album Light When Dark.

Kristian Blak is since November 1977, Sharon White of Lexington, MA, married. The couple has three children Mikael, Sámal and Rebekah.
