Krokom Municipality

Krokom is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Jämtland County and the historic county of Jämtland. The main town of the municipality is Krokom.

Other towns are Änge, Kaxås, Ås, Aspås, Dvärsätt, Föllinge, Nälden, Alsen, Trångsviken, Vaplan, Ytterån etc. Through the community European Road leads 14

Geography

The municipality extends from the Norwegian border, about 100 kilometers to the south to the lake Storsjön. The northern part of the municipality is occupied by the Scandinavian Mountains, which drops to a plateau, which consists of alternating lakes, bogs and forests.

Economy

Agriculture and forestry are strongly represented. Approximately 12 percent of workers are employed in the primary sector and 15 percent in industry.

Attractions

Historically interesting and valuable cultural colonization found in Alsen, 30 kilometers northwest of Krokom, and Offerdal, 30 kilometers north of Krokom. In Offerdal there are also Iron Age grave mound. In Glösa and Gärde are unique, up to 7000 year old rock carvings. Inter alia can be three moose pictured life size (see Gärde ). 110 km north of Krokom are the Hasslingsåfälle. Here the river Hasslingså overcomes a difference in altitude of about 100 meters in several falls and rapids.
