Krups is a subsidiary of the globally active company Groupe SEB. Under this name, a set of household electrical appliances are produced.

Krups is known among other things by the hand mixer 3Mix that came on the market in 1959 and was present in almost every other West German household later.

History

The company started in Solingen today's district forest as blacksmiths. In 1846 it was taken over and expanded by Robert Krups. From the German unification in 1871 to the post-war period Krups manufactured mainly personal and household scales.

1956 the company started with the production of an electric coffee grinder, were deducted from the first year claims to have a million devices. In 1964 there were four manufacturing facilities in Solingen and one in Limerick ( Ireland). In Bottrop a branch factory was founded in 1960. 1983 this plant was closed again. Some employees drove for years with a chartered bus to the main plant of Krups to Solingen. Some time a plant was operated in Gelsenkirchen. Later the works were added in Guadalajara (Mexico) and in Hong Kong. Three years later, Krups took his first slicer on the range. Since 1983 Krups also offers a growing line of espresso machines and coffee machines.

In 1990 the company employed nearly 3,000 people and achieved a turnover of 541 million DM, 40% in Germany and 30 % in the U.S. of which were earned. The majority of the turnover was achieved with coffee makers and stirrers.

In 1991 a collaboration with the food company Nestlé, under which a was brought out with coffee capsules to be equipped coffee. That same year, the company was acquired by the French white goods manufacturer Moulinex. Since its bankruptcy in 2001 Krups heard as so-called high-end brand to the French Groupe SEB.

Today's company locations in Germany Solingen and Offenbach am Main.

In fiscal 2010, Krups employed 50 employees and achieved a turnover of 69.6 million euros.

  • A designer coffee grinder from the range appeared as a prop in the films Back to the future ( as "Mr. Fusion" - a fusion generator for operating the Fluxkompensators ) and Alien - The mysterious creature from another world on.
  • The first webcam in the world, the Trojan Room Coffee Pot Camera, showed a Krups coffee machine. Computer science from the University of Cambridge pointed them in order not to have to wander in vain in the so-called " Trojan Room", only to find that the coffee pot is empty.
