Kuiper is a small, bowl -shaped impact craters on the lunar front side in the plane of the Mare Cognitum, north of the crater Darney and west of the crater Bonpland.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1976 after the American astronomer Gerard Kuiper Peter. Kuiper was a research associate of the Ranger program and the crash site of the spacecraft Ranger 7 is located southeast of the crater ( 10.35 ° S, 20.58 ° WMoon - 10:35 to 20:58 ). Prior to the crater as Bonpland B was designated.
