Attractions

The place Kullamaa ( German Goldbeck ) on the banks of the river Liivi ( Liivi Jõgi ) was for several centuries the center of the parish of the same name. Local pastors were, inter alia, Göseken Heinrich (1612-1681), who in 1660 published an Estonian grammar, and 1710-1747 Gutsleff Heinrich ( 1680-1748 ), one of the originators of the Estonian translation of the New Testament (1715 ). In the cemetery of Kullamaa is the grave of the composer Rudolf Tobias (1873-1918), whose mortal remains were transferred in 1992 from Germany.

Worth seeing is the built in the 13th century castle of Koluvere ( German Lohde ). She was from 1439 one of the seats of the bishops of Osel - Wiek. The castle was the residence of the last Württemberg Princess Caroline Auguste ( 1764-1788 ).
