Kulm Cross

The Kulm Cross was a Prussian War award.

Special occasion and Foundation

The cross was Chelmno, which is rather unusual for German Order, collectively awarded to the members of the Russian ( Guards ) troops who were involved in the Battle of Kulm on 29 and August 30, 1813 during the War of Liberation. In contrast to the usual German / Prussian bravery awards no special personal power was a prerequisite for the award. Nor was made a gradation hinsichtliche in the grade. A formal foundation did not take place. The award is well on the personal initiative of King Frederick William III. back.

Insignia

The single-stage award was very much like the Iron Cross First Class, the stretcher was identical. However, the Kulm Cross in the Avers was smooth. The cross, which consisted not of substance but of sheet iron against original planning was sewn using eyelets on the uniform.

Award

The cross was awarded to a total of about 12,000 Russian Guard soldiers. Officers received a valuable copy in silver.
