Künten

Künten (Swiss German: χøntə ) is a municipality in the district of Baden in the canton of Aargau. It is located in the Reuss valley between Mellingen and Bremgarten. The district Sulz was a separate municipality until 1973.

Geography

Künten lies on the eastern side of the Reuss Valley on a saddle between the western slope of the mountain and the Clear Talhau, a wooded moraine hills, which was created during the retreat of the Reuss glacier at the end of the Würm. Separated by a road range of around 50 meters, is located on a Altwasserlauf in the Reuss level, the village street Sulz, about one kilometer southwest of Künten. On the western boundary of the municipality, the Reuss created by erosion around a 25 meter deep gorge.

The area of the municipality is 489 hectares, of which 132 hectares are covered by forest and built over 63 hectares. The highest point is 530 meters on the eastern boundary of the municipality, the deepest at 354 meters on the river Reuss.

Neighboring municipalities are Busslingen in the north, Bellikon in the east, Eggenwil and Fischbach in the south, the west and Niederwil Stetten in the northwest.

History

Several findings, however, indicate an early settlement. In Künten coins, broken glass, bronze and iron implements a Roman settlement dating from the early 2nd century have been excavated in Sulz, archaeologists discovered a grave mound. The first mention of Chünten and Sulzo was in 1160 in the Acta Murensia which apportion villages as possession of the monastery Muri. The place name comes from the late Latin Künten ( praedium ) Quintinacum and means " belonging to the Quintinus estate ." By sound shift was the old high German Chüntinacha the present form of the name.

In the Middle Ages, the municipality was in the territory of the Habsburgs. The lower courts had, for the most part in the hands of the monastery Hermetschwil. From 1392 belonged to a farm in Künten of the St. Nicholas chapel in Baden. 1415 conquered the Confederates the Aargau, the two villages were now part of the Office pipe village in the county of Baden, a common rule. After 1529 the Reformation had been introduced, the inhabitants had to return to the old faith again after the Second Kappel War of 1531.

In March 1798, the French invaded Switzerland and proclaimed the Helvetic Republic. Künten and Sulz were communities in the short-lived State of Baden, from 1803 they were part of the Canton of Aargau. On June 10, 1866 Great fire in Künten destroyed 14 thatched houses.

Until well into the 20th century Künten was an embossed through farming village. This changed in the 1960s, as Künten was more accessible after the opening of the nearby highway and walked into a residential community. Since 1950, the population has nearly tripled. 1973 merged Künten Sulz and after several failed attempts.

Coat of arms

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is: " Split of white with red high getatztem Cross and Red with white oblique flow. " This coat of arms motif was mapped to the municipality of seals in 1827 and 1872; the line of division was also assigned a vine that was omitted after 1915. On December 31, 2013 1670 people lived in Künten, the proportion of foreigners was 15.5 %. At the 2000 census, 60.0 % Roman Catholic, and 23.3% were reformed; 6.3% belonged to other faiths. 93.1 % identified German as their main language, Albanian 1.5%, 0.9% each English and Turkish.

Politics and Law

The Assembly of the voters, the municipal assembly, shall exercise the legislative power. Executive authority is the five-member council. Traffic

Education

The municipality has a kindergarten and a primary school. The junior high school and secondary school operated jointly with the neighboring community of Stetten. Tourism
