Kurdistan Parliament

The parliament of Iraqi Kurdistan (Kurdish پەرلەمانی كوردستان, short Perleman ) or ICP since 1991, the unicameral parliament of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region in Iraq. Parliament President Kemal Kerkuki, his deputy Arslan Bayez.

The Kurdistan Parliament consists of representatives of various political parties or lists that are elected for four years, to serve as representatives of their respective province. The Parliament is called the National Assembly.

The Parliament is composed of 111 members corporation, where 11 seats are reserved for non- Kurdish minority communities in the Kurdistan region. The building is located in Arbil, the official capital of Kurdistan Autonomous Region.

The Parliament holds two sessions per year, each session will include a span of four months throughout the year. It works through committees for specific areas such as laws affairs, education, finance and economy, foreign relations and culture. Legislative proposals and designs are initiated by the Council of Ministers or by at least ten individual members of Parliament to vote on it then and let it eventually adopt by the President of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region.

Structure

There are 111 seats, as stipulated by Law No. 1, which was adopted by the National Council in 1992. Currently, women hold 39 seats in parliament held. The law stipulates that at least 30 % of the MPs should be women. Eleven seats are reseriviert for the Assyrian- Aramaic, Armenian and Turkmen population in the managed by the regional government provinces.
