Kutia

Kutya (Polish: kutia; Russian: кутья, коливо; Ukrainian: кутя; Belarusian: куцця ) is a sweet grain food that is eaten mainly in the Ukraine, Lithuania, Belarus and the eastern regions of Poland.

Originally kutya was known only in the eastern territories of Poland-Lithuania. After the resettlement in 1945 it has become known in other parts of Poland. In Poland you eat kutya traditionally on 24 December during the Wigilia (12 dishes - food). In the countries of Orthodox religion it is traditionally formulated as first court of Wigilia.

The ingredients consist of husked and boiled wheat, honey, chopped nuts, ground or grated poppy seeds and raisins. You are supposed to symbolize hope and immortality, success, happiness and peace.
