Kvinnherad

Kvinnherad is a commune in the Norwegian Fylke Hordaland. It has the Hardangerfjord and the Husnesfjord the west and the Skånevikfjord in the south. A small part of the district lies to the west of the fjord and adjacent there to municipalities Kvam, Fusa and Tysnes. To the east of the fjord in the north it is bounded by Jondal, Ølen in the south, southeast and Etne Ullensvang and Odda in the east. Here also the Nature Park Folgefonna is the Folgefonnagletscher. Administrative seat is the town of Rosendal.

Commune names

The name Kvinnherad can be divided into two parts, the first part is the more interesting. On the interpretation of Kvinn there are two possible explanations:

Economy

The industry is based on the rich resources of water. Energy production, aluminum production, salmon farming and shipbuilding ( Umoe Scat Harding ) are the main industries.

The Barony Rosendal, the only barony in Norway, is the main tourist destinations of the region. The Barony is a museum that provides interesting information about the time of the Union of Norway with Denmark ( see also Kalmar Union ).
