KY Painter

The KY- painter was a vase painter of the Attic black-figure style. He was 585-570 BC active.

The KY- painter was next to the KX- painters of the most important representative of Komasten group which succeeded the Gorgon Painter. He received his Notnamen by John D. Beazley. He is considered the worse and chronologically somewhat later representatives of Komasten group. Komasten are also one of his favorite image issues. He painted mainly skyphoi, Lekanen, Kothone and Komastenschalen. As the first artist he designed a column krater, was to become the most popular wine mixing vessel.
