Kyjov Hills

The Kyjovská pahorkatina ( German Gayaer hills ) is a mountain range in South Moravia, Czech Republic. It forms the southern part of the Central Moravian Carpathians.

Geography

The Kyjovská pahorkatina is the lowest part of the funds Moravian Carpathians. It extends from northeast to southwest between Buchlovice, Bzenec, Vracov, Kyjov, Ždánice, Klobouky u Brna, Velké Bílovice and Velkopavlovice as a promontory at the southern foot of the mountain Mars, the Litenčická pahorkatina and Steinitzer forest. To the west, the Hustopečská pahorkatina connects. To the east and south, the hills roll down to the Dolnomoravský úval ( Southern March basin).

The Kyjovská pahorkatina has an area of 482 km ² and a mean height of 235.2 m The highest elevation is the Babí lom (417 m) in the Věteřovská Highlands at Strážovice. The Kyjovská pahorkatina is crossed from north to south springing from many in the Martian mountains and Steinitzer forest streams.

Geomorphological subunits form the Kudlovická pahorkatina, Mutěnická pahorkatina, Vážanská Highlands and Věteřovská Highlands.

The hill country is composed of Paleogene Flyschformationen.

In the Kyjovská pahorkatina are the natural monuments Bohuslavické stráně and Losky.
