Kyleakin

Kyleakin (from Scottish Gaelic Caol Acain, German: Haakonsstraße ) is a town in the southeast of the island of Skye, which is one of the Inner Hebrides. The population of the town in 2006 was well below 1,000.

Kyleakin is situated opposite the Kyle of Lochalsh. Both places are only separated by the at this point rather narrow Loch Alsh. By the year 1995, when the Skye Bridge was opened, the place was the ferry port for the traffic between the Scottish mainland with the Ferry Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye. There was a continuous shuttle to the ferry company Caledonian MacBrayne with two, sometimes three ferries in the summer, which drove around the clock. Nevertheless, over the last years before the opening of the bridge due to the increasing tourism especially during the summer months jams in place on the agenda.
