L'Escale

L' Escale is a commune with 1330 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Alpes- de -Haute -Provence, Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur; it belongs to the administrative district in the canton of Forcalquier and Volonne.

Geography

The village is located approximately 15 kilometers southeast of Sisteron on the left bank of the Durance. Neighboring communities of L' Escale are:

  • Volonne in the north,
  • Barras in the Northeast,
  • Mirabeau in the southeast,
  • Malijai in the south,
  • Les Mees in the southwest and
  • Château- Arnoux -Saint -Auban in the West.

On the western boundary of the municipality, the Durance, by a weir ( Barrage de L' Escale ) is dammed for power generation runs. In the extreme southwest of the municipal area flows into the river Bléone from the left in the Durance.

Transport links

L' Escale is mainly supplied by the national road traffic- 85 (Route Napoléon ). The A51 motorway runs along the Durance in the neighboring village of Château- Arnoux -Saint -Aubin. There is also the nearest airport Aerodrome de Château- Arnoux -Saint -Aubin.
