L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre

L' Hospitalet- près- l'Andorre is a commune with 92 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the department of Ariège in the Midi-Pyrénées region. It belongs to the district of Foix, in the canton of Ax- les -Thermes and community association Vallées d' Ax.

Geography

The municipality of L' Hospitalet- près- l'Andorre located in the Pyrenees, 17 kilometers south of the spa town of Ax- les -Thermes. L' Hospitalet is the southernmost and 1440 m above sea level, the highest town in the department of Ariège and the region Midi -Pyrénées.

The municipality extends on both sides of the River Ariège in the Pyrenees. It is bordered on the south by the department of Pyrenees- Orientales and in the south west to the tiny country of Andorra.

Between the peak positions determine rock formations, wells with small lakes ( Etang du Siscar, Etang de Pedourres ), alpine meadows and boulder fields of the countryside. The lakes flow over mountain streams ( Ruisseau du Siscar, Ruisseau de Val d' Arques, Ruisseau des Bésines ) partially cascade to Ariège.

The proportion of forest in the municipality amounts to only about 10%. The municipally owned Domaniale Forêt de l' Hospitalet is located in the valley of the Ariege and on its slopes; large parts of the community brain area are above the tree line. History

The official name since 1928 L' Hospitalet- près- l'Andorre (1793 only L' Hospitalet, L' Hospitales 1801 ) translates freely ( The ) Hospital near Andorra.
