L'Isle-Jourdain, Gers

L' Isle- Jourdain ( Gascon L' Isla de Baish ) is a commune with 7356 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Gers, in the Midi -Pyrénées in the arrondissement and also, it is the administrative center of the canton of L' Isle- Jourdain. The inhabitants are (it) called Lislois.

The city is situated on the banks of the Sava River.

History

The place name is reminiscent of an island (Isle ) in the middle of a swamp. A gentleman from Isle was a participant in the crusade baptize his son in Jordan and named him after the river; the name was taken over by the municipality.
