L. L. Langstroth

Lorenzo Langstroth completely Lorenzo Langstroth Lorrain ( born December 25, 1810 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † October 6th, 1895 in Dayton, Ohio, United States) was a pastor and has the beekeeping researched and developed in detail with magazine Booties.

A native of Philadelphia Lorenzo Langstroth, came as insektenkundlich interested pastor with nearly 40 years of beekeeping. He devoted himself particularly to the development of the booty construction and published a series of beekeeping books. In 1851 he discovered the bees distance ( bee space), which is 8-10 mm and is no longer built over with bees wax and propolis. It is the ideal distance between the honeycomb and hive wall, which allows to prevent unwanted barriers, making beekeeping is much easier. In 1853 he presented a later named after him modular prey type, considered the archetype of the modern magazine prey and rapidly prevailed in America. Modern bee -prey systems are regularly variations of his findings. His research results were first implemented by Charles Dadant into practice.

The Langstroth magazine is now arguably the world's most common prey system in modern beekeeping.
