La Forclaz

La Forclaz is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

La Forclaz is located at 848 m above sea level. M., 12 km southeast of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The mountain village is located in the central Chablais, in a depression on the steep eastern slope of the valley high above the Dranse de Morzine, in the northern Savoy Alps.

The area of ​​4.04 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Chablais. The western border is the Dranse de Morzine, which here extends approximately from north to south in a deep valley. In the Gorges du Pont du Diable, the valley is narrow gorge-like. In the south, the municipality complex to the dam of Lac du Jotty ranges in the north to the confluence of Dranse d' Abondance. From the river to the church floor extends eastward over the steep and partially crossed by rock walls slope down to the Pointe de l' Aiguille (1502 m above sea level. M. ) and the de pointes Tréchauffex on which 1580 m above sea level. M. the highest peak of La Forclaz is achieved.

At La Forclaz includes the hamlet settlements La Chavette (660 m above sea level. M. ) Le Cruet (770 m above sea level. M. ), Belmont (920 m above sea level. M. ) and Chalets de Tréchauffex (1250 m above sea level. M. ) all located on the steep slope of La Forclaz. Neighboring communities of La Forclaz are Vinzier and Chevenoz in the north, La Baume in the south and La Vernaz in the West.

History

Since 1740 La Forclaz is an independent municipality, previously it was part of Le Biot.

Attractions

The village church dates from the 19th century and has an onion dome typical Savoyard style. Another attraction is the natural bridge in the Gorges du Pont du Diable.

Population

With 214 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) La Forclaz one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Savoie. In the second half of the 20th century, the population remained at a constant level.

Economy and infrastructure

La Forclaz is a predominantly agricultural village today. The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is from the main road that leads from Thonon -les- Bains to Morzine, relatively easily accessible. Another road connection with Le Fion (municipality Chevenoz ) in the Vallée d' Abondance.
