La France (airship)

The La France was a French airship with a length of 52 meters and a volume of 1900 m³. It has an electric motor, powered by a 435 kg heavy battery driven. In collaboration with Charles Renard, Arthur Constantin Krebs accomplished with La France the first fully controlled flight of an airship. The seven flights 1884-1885 succeeded with La France five times to return to the starting point.

La France was built in Hangar Y in 1879 at Chalais Meudon near Paris. Hangar Y is the oldest airship hangar in the world and one of the few that still exist today in Europe. France continued Hangar Y in 2002 as a contestant on the Tentative List (about a membership application ) the list of world cultural heritage.
