La Frasnée

La Frasnée is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Frasnée is located at 550 m above sea level. M., about 24 km southeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the deeply incised into the surrounding plateau valley of Drouvenant, on the western edge of the chains of the high Jura.

The area of ​​3.19 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area occupied by the valley Drouvenant which provides for drainage of Ain. The valley is characterized in the village of La Frasnée a bow: First, it is in south-north direction oriented, beneath the village turns to the northwest. History

The municipality of La Frasnée been inhabited since prehistoric times, and during the Roman period. First mentioned the village is in the year 1208. The place name derives from the old French word Fresnaie ( ash grove ). Since the Middle Ages La Frasnée belonged to the dominion of Clairvaux. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The chapel of La Frasnée was built in the 19th century. Among the natural attractions of the area include the valley of the Drouvenant, the Creux de la Frasnée and the cave of Trou Gangônes.

Population

With 38 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) La Frasnée one of the smallest towns in the Jura. Throughout the 20th century, the population moved always in the range between 40 and 70 people.

Economy and infrastructure

La Frasnée was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially livestock and dairy farming, as well as by the forestry village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. Road connections are Clairvaux- les -Lacs and Crillat.
