La Hire

Étienne de Vignolles called La Hire (* 1390 in Vignolles; † January 11, 1443 in Montauban ) was a French knight.

Étienne de Vignolles fought in 1429 at the siege of Orléans at the Joan of Arc's page, distinguished himself later in the year at Jargeau and Patay from. In 1431 he tried to free Joan of Arc from Rouen, but failed and fell into British captivity. The following year he managed to escape. He took up the struggle against the English again, fought victoriously in the Artois, in the Ile- de -France and Picardy, but also multiplied the number of this looting and atrocities. Beginning of 1443 he accompanied King Charles VII to Montauban, where he died on January 11 at the injuries suffered.

His surname La Hire ( ire, the French word for anger) is due to its emotional power and its violence.

The Knave of French playing cards is (referring to Étienne de Vignolles ) called La Hire and often written Lahire.
