La Lupe

Guadalupe Victoria Yoli Raymond ( born December 23, 1939 in Santiago de Cuba, † February 29, 1992 in New York City ), better known by her stage name La Lupe, was a Cuban singer.

She was born as the daughter of a laborer the Bacardi distillery in Santiago district of San Pedrito. Before her singer career, she was a teacher. In 1958 she married and went on with her husband Eulogio " Yoyo " Reyes and another female singer. This trio " Los Tropicuba " broke up in 1960. La Lupe began a solo career in a nightclub in Havana, La Red Their first album, Con el Diablo en el cuerpo ( With the Devil in the body) in 1961 brought the label Discuba out.

In 1962, she emigrated to the United States of America. In New York City she performed in the Cabaret La Barraca, where she was discovered by Mongo Santamaría. In the next five years, she released ten albums.
