La Mirada is a city in the U.S. state of California, United States, with 49,300 inhabitants ( 2004).

History

The history of La Mirada begins in 1888, when Andrew McNally and Edwin Neff for $ 200,000 to purchase 8.9 km ² of land south of Los Angeles to plant olive trees there. Olive oil gained a lot of popularity so that a settlement with the workers formed, which was also connected to the railway network.

The name derives from the town was founded in 1896 by the La Mirada McNally and Neff Land Company. In 1946, the situated amidst olive plantations place had 213 inhabitants.

In 1953, the ground on which there was the settlement, sold for 5.2 million U.S. dollars to the state of California. When he received the city rights on 23 March 1960 under the name Mirada Hills, the population had risen to over 8,000. On 8 November 1960, the name was changed due to a referendum in La Mirada; the name change was completed on 15 December 1960.
