La Motte-en-Bauges

La Motte- en- Bauges is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

La Motte- en- Bauges is located on 710 m above sea level. M., about 22 km northeast of the town of Chambery (air line). The farming village extends to the northwest of the Savoie département, in the massif of the Wallows, in the broad valley basin of the Chéran at the western foot of Mont Chabert.

History

La Motte is first mentioned in the 11th century. The place name derives from the old French word mothe from denoting a fortified hill.

Attractions

The Village Church of La Motte- en- Bauges was built in the 19th century. In addition, the Manoir des Cerises and the hamlet Noiray be mentioned with its characteristic houses in the Savoyard style.

Population

With 438 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) La Motte- en- Bauges is one of the small communities of the department of Savoie.
