La Oliva

La Oliva is one of the six municipalities of the Canary Island of Fuerteventura. Administrative center is the village of La Oliva. The municipal area also includes the uninhabited island of Lobos.

History

The name La Oliva is of the abundant occurrence of the wild olive tree ( Olea europaea) hail from. 1708 La Oliva was the seat of the military command. 1711 was the site of a separate parish. Some years Fuerteventura was administered by La Oliva from. However, this position lost the city in 1860 at Puerto de Cabras, today's Puerto del Rosario.

  • The manor Casa del Coronel was built in the 17th century on the outskirts of La Oliva in the typical Spanish colonial style. Traffic

With the harbor in Corralejo, the municipality of La Oliva has an important ferry port, among others to Lanzarote and Lobos.
