La Orchila (Spanish Isla La Orchila ) is an island in the Caribbean Sea, about 180 kilometers north of Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, and located about 45 km east of Los Roques. Geographically, the island is one of the Windward Islands, administratively to the Venezuelan Dependencias Federales ( Federal Territories ).

La Orchila has a land area of ​​about 40 square kilometers and reaches a height of Cerro Walker 139 meters above the sea. On the island there are numerous beaches with pink sand ( Playa Rosada ). The island are upstream some small cays in the Northeast.

On the otherwise uninhabited island of the Venezuelan military operates a base, and there are quarters for the President of Venezuela, as well as military. President Hugo Chávez was imprisoned at La Orchila during the coup in April 2002. Chávez also spent the last few days until his death on the island.
