La Quarte

La Quarte is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Quarte situated at an altitude of 365 m above sea level, 7 km southwest of Vitrey -sur -Mance and about 38 km west-northwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the extreme north- west of the department, on a high plateau on the eastern slopes of the plateau of Langres, between the valleys of Mance in the north and in the south rigotte.

The area of ​​3.19 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the plateau of Langres west of the upper Saônetals. The main part of the territory is occupied by the fourth plateau of La, which is on average 360 m. It is used predominantly agricultural, but especially along the municipal boundaries, there are large forest areas. The plateau culminates in the west of the village at 386 m, the highest peak of La Quarte. In geological- tectonic terms, these high surface consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited on the merits during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). In the west the plateau is related to the high surface area of ​​Fayl -Billot. To the north the municipality area extends into the headwaters of the Ougeotte, which provides for drainage east to the Saône. The boundaries of the area to the north through the Bois du Châtelet, to the east by the Bois de l' Hourie and on the south by the Grands Bois.

Neighboring communities of La Quarte are Ouge in the north, Chauvirey -le- Châtel in the east, La Rochelle and Pressigny in the south and Fayl -Billot in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages belonged to La Quarte Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Chauvirey. The village developed only in the course of the 16th century as a clearing island. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. The village has developed into a center of basketry and culture of the basket willow. Since 1 January 2002 La Quarte is a member of the comprehensive 13 villages, interdepartmental community association Communauté de communes du Pays Vannier.

Attractions

The church of Saint - Gilbert was built in 1737 and enlarged in 1798. In the center stands a Lavoir, which once served as a laundry and watering cattle.

Population

With 65 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is one of La Quarte one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the 20th century (1886 209 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since 1999.

Economy and infrastructure

La Quarte was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses, including a studio for traditional basketry. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road N19, which runs from Vesoul to Langres. Further road links exist with Chauvirey -le -Chatel, Pierre Mont- sur- Amance and Pressigny.
