La Vernotte

La Vernotte is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Vernotte situated at an altitude of 249 m above sea level, 5 km south of Fresne -Saint- Mamès and about 33 km north- northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the southwest of the department, in Saônebecken, on the plateau, which adjoins the south-east of the Saône valley, on the eastern edge of the Bois de Saint- Gand.

The area of ​​5.53 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of south-east of the Saône. The main part of the area is occupied by a platform, which is an average 240 m. Geologically, the plateau is one of the Saônebecken and is composed of Tertiary deposits. It is used mainly agricultural, but also shows larger areas of forest. In the southwest, the municipality's area extends into the Bois de Saint- Gand. With 262 m is reached on a hill at the farm Les Gilles, the highest peak of La Vernotte. In the east the plateau is bordered by the valley of the Jouanne and to the north of that of their side stream Ruisseau des Ecornes. These provide for drainage north to Romaine.

At La Vernotte addition to the actual village includes several hamlets and farmhouses:

  • Sept- Fontaines ( 215 m) in the valley of Jouanne
  • Les Cordes (235 m) on the plateau southeast of the village

Neighboring communities of La Vernotte are Greucourt and Vezet in the north, Les Bâties in the east, Frasnian -le- Château and Étrelles -et -la- Montbleuse in the south and Saint- Gand in the West.

History

The municipality of La Vernotte was settled very early on what could be proven by the remains of a prehistoric settlement site at Les Gilles. In the Middle Ages the area of La Vernotte belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. The local government had held the Lords of Oiselay. In 1807, the then named after the hamlet of Sept- Fontaines municipality was merged with Saint- Gand. 1824 Sept- Fontaines was separated again and again since then forms a separate municipality. 1898, the community was renamed La Vernotte. Since 2007, La Vernotte is a member of the comprehensive 20 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy. The village does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish of Saint- Gand.

Population

With 68 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) La Vernotte one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 237 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

La Vernotte was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a local road that runs from Saint- Gand to Les Bâties. Another road connection with Greucourt.
