La Vèze

La Vèze is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Vèze is located on 391 m, about 4 km southeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the western Jura, on the so-called first plateau on the western edge of the swamp Marais de Saône, at the southern foot of the Jura - edge chain.

The area of ​​5.27 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the wide first Jura plateau, which is on average 390 m. It forms a wide basin with no surface runoff. This sink is mainly consisted of meadow and arable land, and partly of wood. In the East, has La Vèze share of Marais de Saône. To the south the plateau in the Bois d' Aglans increases slightly to 440 m. History

Is first mentioned La Vèze in 1233 under the name VEZIA. Over time, the spelling on Vizia ( 1251 ), Vezia ( 1261 ) and La Vese ( 1417 ) transformed to the present name La Vèze that is first documented in 1547. Since the Middle Ages the village belonged to the city of Besançon. Together with the Franche -Comté it came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. It was not until 1835 La Vèze was separated from Besançon and collected for independent community.

With 425 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) La Vèze one of the small communities of the department of Doubs.
