Lacus Hiemalis

Lacus hiemalis - Latin for winter lake - is a solidified lava lake on the moon. The term has been defined by the International Astronomical Union in 1976.

The Little Mare area has an average diameter of 50 km and is located on the near side of the moon at the selenographic coordinates 15 degrees north and 14 degrees east.

The lake is surrounded in the north west of Lacus Gaudii, in the west of Lacus Lenitatis and in the north east of the 14 km wide crater Daubree whose base has also been flooded by lava. In the northeast is located near the edge of Mare Serenitatis in diameter of 27 km wide crater Menelaus.
