Ladislav Klíma

Ladislav Klima ( born August 22, 1878 in Domažlice, † April 19, 1928 in Prague) was Czech philosopher and poet.

Life

Klima was the son of a miller formed, who worked in a law firm. By 1895, he attended the local grammar school, from which he was expelled for insulting the Austrian monarchy ( he described them as " pigs Dynasty "). He then attended high school in Zagreb, did not finish this, however, and went in 1904 to Prague. There he led a secluded life and wrote articles for magazines, including Tribuna and rights of the people ( Prava lidu ). He lived for the most part of inheritances relative or gifts of money from friends, including the poet Otokar Brezina. He died because of his excessive lifestyle of tuberculosis and was buried in the Prague Cemetery Malvazinky.

Person

From a very young enthusiastic Klima philosophy. His own view is also known as existentialism, whose basis is the solipsism, along with volunteerism. He was influenced mainly by philosophers like George Berkeley ( Subjective Idealism ), Arthur Schopenhauer ( pessimism ) and Friedrich Nietzsche ( doctrine of the superman ).

He was for Czech standards when it comes to his views and his way of life, an unconventional personality. He hated habits of civilization, which he described as unnecessary. On the other hand, he experimented with his body (as he described himself ), he exacted by this excessive alcohol and nicotine consumption.

Works

In addition to philosophical works, he also wrote poetry and drama, the majority remained until his death preserved in manuscript form and was printed afterwards. He himself claimed to have destroyed most of his lyrics for obscenity. His collected works were published in the nineties in the publishing Torst. Another edition of collected works was launched in 2005. This book also includes his philosophical diary.

  • The Sufferings of Prince Star High ( Utrpení knížete Sternenhocha, 1928). The story of a thirty-three German nobleman and his much younger wife, Helga. He admires and hates it at the same time. Drama

  • Matthias the honest. Fantastic folk comedy in three acts Matěj Poctivý. Fantastická Lidová veselohra o Trech dějstvích, 1922 This drama he co-wrote with Arnost Dvořák. At the National Theatre, it had to be stopped shortly after the premiere because of the audience protests.
