Lager

As a lager different beers are called. The term " lager " means that the beer is stored and matured at the brewery - but not that it is a permanent canned for storage.

Term

Until the 19th century, all full -fermenting beers and Schankbiere were so named when stored at 11% to 14 % original wort, corresponding to an alcohol content from 4.6 to 5.6 vol - was relieved %. In Germany today beers are referred to as having the original wort content of a full beer, but are only weakly hopped usually in contrast to the Pilsner beer. The distribution area lies mainly in the southern German region of Baden- Württemberg and Bavaria and in Austria. The term " camp" finds its use in the original sense still in the English language.

Properties

The production of bottom-fermented beer requires low temperatures, which is why the eyebrows was limited before the invention of the refrigerator on the cool winter months. Because of the good storage properties, it could be stored in ice cellars until the following autumn. In this property, the name refers stock. Other names are derived from the bright yellow color, which is lifted by the finely polished Blank filters. Designations such as Bavarian Light, Bright Light or export beer refer to it. Export refers to the provision of long-distance trade, for a longer shelf life was also necessary.

Beer storage

Beer leaving the brewery, has the best quality condition. Also in " bottled Bottles of lager beer " should be drunk within half a year, especially as the beer more fresh tastes the younger the beer is filled. So the difference is explained in taste between freshly tapped from the barrel and the home beer from the bottle. For storing beer for a few days you should choose cool, dark rooms. Light leads to unwanted chemical reactions in the beer, causing a slight " musty " odor. Ideally, should reign a constant temperature 6-8 ° C in the light- protected space. Cold or heat lead to loss of quality, low temperatures and can cause chill haze at high temperatures to oxidation processes of aromatic substances.
