Lagoa de Óbidos

The lagoon of Óbidos ( Portuguese: Lagoa de Óbidos ) is a lagoon on the west coast of Portugal. At its widest point it is 1.8 km wide. It extends from the Atlantic Ocean below the village of Foz do Arelho about 5 km long of which they handed in the Middle Ages towards the town of Óbidos, from which it takes its name, and up.

Once the ecological balance was threatened by development and proliferation of algae, various measures to protect the lagoon have been tackled by the community.

On walks you can find a variety of waterfowl and migratory birds are observed, including flamingos. For this purpose, here a wide variety of water sports are operated, especially windsurfing.
