Laiküla ( German Layküll ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Martna ( Martna vald ) in Lääne in Estonia.
Population and location
The village has 23 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). The distance to the county capital of Haapsalu is 32 kilometers.
Through the village the river Rannamõisa ( Rannamõisa Jõgi ), which empties into the Bay of Matsalu flows. To the east of the village center is the moor of Laiküla ( Laiküla raba ).
History
The court of Laiküla originated during the 17th century. He was first mentioned in 1688. Since 1865 he was a country place. Last private owner before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919 was the Baltic German Karl Edler von Rennenkampff.
