Lake Albanel

The Lac Albanel is a lake a few kilometers east of Lac Mistassini larger in the center of the Labrador Peninsula in the region Jamesie the Canadian province of Quebec.

The lake has a water surface of 407 square kilometers, according to other sources, a net area of 425 km ² and a total area of 444 square kilometers including islands.

Lac Albanel is an 88 km long and 7 km wide lake, which runs to the east of the parallel Lac Mistassini. Its main tributary is the Rivière Témiscamie. The lake has an outflow to Lac Mistassini, which is drained by the Rivière Rupert. The northern end of the Quebec Route 167 ends at the shore of Lac Albanel. Etymology

The lake was originally called Petit lac Mistassini, as it runs parallel to its larger neighbor Lac Mistassini. In 1910, the lake was named in honor of Charles Albanel, who discovered it in 1672, renamed. Other name variants are: Lac Aubanel, Petit lac Mistassini, Lac Mistassiniche.
