Lake Chukhloma

The Tschuchlomasee (Russian Чухломское озеро ) is an almost circular freshwater lake in the Kostroma Oblast (Russia).

Location

The lake is situated at an altitude of 148 m above sea level. It has an area of 48.7 km ² and an average depth of 4.5 m. The lake has an almost circular shape with a diameter of 6 to 7 km. The shores are flat and swampy. The floor is made of mud and silt. The lake is frozen from late October to late April. A number of small rivers and streams feed the lake. It has a drain in the northwest, in the direction of Kostroma. At the southeastern shore of the lake, the city is Tschuchloma. At its northern shore, near the Noschkino Selo, is the Awraamijew - Gorodetsky Monastery ( Авраамиев Городецкий монастырь ), founded in the 15th century.
