Lake Illawarra

The Lake Illawarra is a coastal lagoon in Illawarra, Australia.

Nature

The lake covers approximately 36 square kilometers and is up to 3 m deep. The freshwater input is from a nearby escarpment by two rivers. The salt-water tide occurs at a suburb of Wollongong. Sand erosion from the environment compensates for irrigation by the tide. The birdlife includes pelicans, cormorants, ducks rags, hair tuft divers, sadness swans, egrets and ibises.

Use

The use of sailing boats is allowed on the lake. A nearby 435 MW gas power plant uses the lagoon water for cooling purposes. He is regarded as a recreational area of Wollongong
