Lake Tisza

Lake Tisza (Hungarian: Tisza- tó or Kiskörei - víztározó, " Kisköre Reservoir " ) is Hungary's largest artificial lake.

Location and data

The lake is located in the southeast of the county Heves on the border of the counties of Borsod -Abaúj -Zemplén, Hajdú -Bihar and Jasz -Nagykun -Szolnok. The lake was dug in 1973 to control flooding on the Tisza water. In the 1990s, the lake reached its final water level. With a length of 27 km, it extends over 127 km ². The average depth is 1.3 m. At the deepest point of the lake is 17 m deep. In the lake there are many islands with a total area of 43 km ².

Tourism

The lake moved to the full running of the basin, principally Hungarian tourists, as this offered a cheaper alternative to Balaton. Around the lake were built around campsites, hotels and outdoor pools. In the adjacent surrounding areas to rural tourism developed. There is also a bird sanctuary.

Lake Tisza is crossed by the railway Füzesabony Debrecen. On this route Regional trains in two- hour intervals, the hold on both banks of the lake in the places Poroszlo and Tiszafüred.
