Lam Akol

Lam Akol Ajawin ( born July 15, 1950 in Athidhwoi, A'ali at Nile, Sudan ) is a Sudanese politician. He is a leading member of the Sudan People's Liberation Army ( SPLA) and was from September 20, 2005 to October 16, 2007 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Sudan.

Akol is a member of the South Sudanese ethnic group of Shilluk. He studied at the University of Khartoum and in the UK. In April 1986 he left the university and joined the Sudan People's Liberation Army ( SPLA). Within the SPLA he turned from 1991 to 2003 together with the Nuer, Riek Machar into the SPLA - Nasir faction against the SPLA leader John Garang and changed thus on the side of the Government of Sudan, so that he in 1998-2002 Transport Minister Sudan been.
