Lambert Chaumont

Lambert Chaumont (* 1645 in the Prince-Bishopric of Liège, † April 23, 1712 in Huy ) was a Belgian composer, organist and Carmelites.

Lambert Chaumont occurred on May 8, 1659 in Liege, the Carmelite monastery, where his training began, which he continued as a novice in Reims. He was then rector of the parish of St. Martin in Huy and from 1688 in the neighboring parish of St. Germain.

In the field of music Chaumont was an autodidact. He has yet brought it to a good organist with compositional talent for his instrument.

Chaumont left a Orgelbuch ( Pièces d' orgue sur les 8 tons op.2, Liege, 1695) with a total of 111 pieces. His work is in close relationship to the French organ school of his time ( Nivers, Lebègue, Boyvin, Grigny or Raison ), although his Liege contemporaries had turned to the Italian style. In this book he looks at organ as one of the first by Andreas Werckmeister with the tempered scale.

In addition, Chaumont wrote a book about the plague.
