Land Transport New Zealand

Land Transport New Zealand ( Land Transport NZ ) ( Māori: Aotearoa ikiiki Whenua ), was a state-owned company in New Zealand, based in Wellington. Its role was to provide planning, development, expansion and safety of the roads system in New Zealand. Headquartered in Wellington Land Transport NZ operating seven other offices distributed in major cities across the country.

The company was founded in 2004 under the Land Transport Management Act 2003 as a Crown Entity and subordinated to the Ministry of Transport (Ministry of Transport ). Four years later, Land Transport New Zealand along with Transit New Zealand was transferred to the newly established on 1 August 2008 New Zealand Transport Agency.

Tasks

Land Transport NZ wanted to be an active link between the legislature and the operative transport sector and was responsible for:

  • Registration of vehicles for private and commercial area
  • Granting of licenses
  • Support of partners took over the Land Transport NZ for tasks
  • Ensuring safe transport and transport routes
  • Support and adviser to the Government
