Land transport

Land transport means all types of transport that take place on solid ground, so on land. In addition to the land transport, shipping, aviation and space exist. The vehicles that are used for land transport, are land vehicles and that are motor vehicles, they may be partly swim depending on design and are then called amphibious vehicles.

Term Meaning

For land transport in particular is one of the pedestrian traffic, road transport, rail transport and the cable cars. The land transport is the oldest mode of transport, it is the pedestrian traffic of the most original.

Infrastructure

Mostly infrastructure such as roads and paths are used for pedestrian, bicycle and motor vehicle traffic. For traffic control technical devices such as traffic signals are often present. For rail transport, there are also tracks including technical equipment such as signals and traffic device, for example such as railway stations.

The land transport contributes in the industrialized nations (together with the building development) the highest percentage of soil sealing by the road construction. The CO2 emissions in the road transport contributes to air pollution and thus to global warming.
