Landgravine Charlotte of Hesse-Darmstadt

Charlotte Wilhelmine Christiane Marie of Hesse- Darmstadt ( born November 5, 1755 in Darmstadt, † December 12, 1785 in Hannover) was by marriage Duchess of Mecklenburg -Strelitz.

Life

Charlotte was a daughter of Prince Georg Wilhelm of Hesse- Darmstadt (1722-1782) from his marriage to Louise (1729-1818), daughter of Count Christian Karl Reinhard of Leiningen- Dabo.

First, the Princess with Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm Peter had been betrothed of Oldenburg, but was the betrothal, dissolved due to the onset of mental illness Peters again.

Charlotte married on September 28, 1784 in Darmstadt, later to become the Duke Charles of Mecklenburg -Strelitz. This had been previously married to Charlotte's older sister Friederike, for their five surviving children, she became the stepmother.

The couple lived in Hanover, where Charles served as a governor of King George. Charlotte died after the birth of her only child a year after her marriage. Karl was then on his service in Hanover and moved to Charlotte's mother to Darmstadt, to which he gave the children in care.

Together with her husband and his first wife Charlotte found in the royal crypt at Mirow their final resting place.
