Landsat 8

Landsat 8 is a started on February 11, 2013 Earth observation satellite of the U.S. air and space agency NASA. The satellite is the eighth version in the series of Landsat satellites. It is equipped with the sensors OLI and TIRS.

Landsat 8 is part of the Earth Observing System ( EOS ), a comprehensive number of missions, long-term research program of NASA.

Orbit

The satellite moves in a polar, sun-synchronous orbit (SSO). A characteristic of this orbit is that the satellite passes each day at the same time a point on the earth. Therefore, such earth orbit are frequently used for meteorological satellites and Earth observation satellites.
