Landshut–Rottenburg railway

The railway line Landshut Rottenburg ( Pfettrachtalbahn ) is a 27.5 -kilometer branch line from Landshut to Rottenburg an der Laaber that the name Rottenburger Bockerl contributed to local residents. In the remaining section Landshut sub Neuhausen Since 2011 regular cruises are regular events.

Planning

Already in 1867 and 1878 examined you, also for military reasons, detail the ways to connect the towns of Landshut and Ingolstadt with a railroad track. The investigations proved that there was no general need for a through traffic. So asked in 1890 of the Landshut town magistrate for the concession for the configuration of a railway from Landshut to Pfeffenhausen and another of Pfeffenhausen after Eggmühl.

In September 1891, the Munich Local Bahn AG presented its report. This provided for a 20.09 km long distance to Pfeffenhausen at a cost of 1,250,000 Mark. The construction of a stretch of Pfeffenhausen after Eggmühl, however, would not correspond to the traffic interest of the upper Laabertales, which was aligned to the district capital Landshut.

Thus summoned the Royal Bavarian State Government in the supplement to the draft Local Railway Act of 12 December 1895 that a local train from Landshut to Pfeffenhausen is most conveniently with continuation to Rottenburg. The possibility of continuing construction direction Ingolstadt was left open. Man on the Bavarian State appropriated the space needed for the railway construction base free of charge. On June 17, 1896, the Local rail project Landshut Rottenburg was approved by a local railway law. They promised themselves primarily benefits for local agriculture, namely except for cereal cultivation and animal husbandry in particular for the cultivation of hops in the Hallertau.

Construction

During the construction of the railroad were, as usual, at this time, many Italian workers employed. The largest gradients were the ramp at Arth (20 per thousand ), the watershed between Pfettrach and Laber (23 per thousand ) and the ridge of Pfeffenhausen towards Rottenburg (25 per thousand ). The last stop in Rottenburg was applied 1.1 kilometer from the market, since the place was 20 feet above the grading of the final destination.

The first estimate amounted to 1.444 million marks. Was between Landshut and Pfeffenhausen but a chosen than originally planned, which were only a total of about 170,000 cubic meters of earth to move at almost one kilometers shorter route. There was thus obtained a final total cost of 1,377,763 marks, of which the State provided 1,210,499 Mark. On October 29, 1900, the first test run took place behind a D VII, on 3 November, the route with the handling of four special trains, was officially opened.

Operation

The Rottenburger Bockerl was a typical Bavarian branch line that ran past major grain and hop fields and farms and mills. Among the trains were many GmP thereby indicating at stations long travel times as a result of Rangieraufenthalte. The passenger was dominated by the visitors weekly, cattle fairs and markets. Pure freight trains were initially rare.

By 1930, two locomotives of Class D XI, at times even a D VII overcame the operation. The track conditions and the quality of the superstructure could be only a maximum speed of 30 km / hr. In the summer of 1921 reversed in each direction three trains. The evening train took 99 minutes, which corresponded to a cruising speed of 16.7 km / h. At the Wegübergängen the train was allowed to drive only at 15 km / h, with some only at 10 km / h

Infamous was the anger Hofer mountain where it leaves through the fall and winter due to snowfall in heavily occupied trains occasionally this came in the autumn that the Bockerl got stuck and had to make a new start with less cars. Around 1930, the two D XI were reinforced by a BB II.

1935 to about 1940 per one -sided D XI, a BB II and Pt 2/3 of the service. 1940 Pt 2/3 was replaced by a GTL 4/4. From 1943, drove only several locomotives of the series Pt 2/3. 1951 were GtL 4/5 in their place. After the summer schedule in 1952 it was still a good hour on the track go.

The timetable change in 1955 disappeared the most " Bockerl " of the track, a steam engine was only for school transport still biased, usually 98 1006. Well Uerdinger rail buses were used, in combination VT 98 VB 98 VS 98 times also a VB 140 with initially a G- wagon for cargo. Car trains (passenger and freight trains ), 64 were pulled by BR later of V 100.

The end

Despite all efforts, the traffic is shifted more and more to the road. The timetable change on 25 May 1974, the passenger traffic was stopped and shifted to rail buses. The rail bus 798669-8 who eV from Landshut went on that day with the model railroad clubs Landshut members to Rottenburg, was the last. The Rottenburger town band played I had a comrade, at 20:45 clock the railcar was on his way back.

Are no longer needed for freight rail facilities disappeared. The station building Weihmichl was canceled in September 1974, the shelters in Arth in February 1975. On 31 January 1982, the ticketing and baggage handling to the train station Rottenburg was closed.

The low freight held upright series vehicles 260. Occasionally, machines of the series 211, 212 and 218 were used.

In 1990, one interest group Rottenburger Bockerl eV, which in 1994 was renamed eV in steam friends Landshut Rottenburg. Since the early 90s, initially rolled even on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, last only as needed locomotives of series 365 and 335 to maneuvering to Rottenburg. Despite a reorganization of the superstructure in the 1980s, the maximum speed was often only 30 km / h as at the beginning of the operation recording. The railway fans organized special trips repeatedly. On 12 June 1994, the V 200 002 pulled a special train to Rottenburg, on 27 June 1993, with 23 105 and carried out on 14 August 1994, the 41 1150 special trips.

On September 27, 1998 reversed as part of a farewell ride on the steam locomotive 41 1150 the last train on the total distance. From Under Neuhausen (km 14.2 ) to Rottenburg the tracks and sleepers 2002/ 03 were removed from the track bed.

Reactivation

The remaining section is since September 15, 2000 by owner DB Netz to the steam train friends Landshut Rottenburg eV (EIU: BayernBahn ) leased, intending there to set up a museum railway traffic. The necessary concession was granted in 2005, the start of operations, however, postponed several times. In the area of the level crossing on the B 299 in Oberndorf near Weihmichl track and superstructure have been completely renewed to a length of 50 meters to the end of 2007, after large amounts of diesel arrived in an accident with a tank truck on 14 September 2006 into the ground. The district of Landshut and the community Altdorf are the heritage railway project skeptical: District and Mayor stated on several occasions " that their goal [ was ] to decommission the railway line [Footnote 1 ] and to build on the route of a pedestrian and cycle ".

4 June 2011 intercourse for the first time a train on the track. On this and the following day a special steam shuttled several times between Landshut and Neuhausen. There were other special days of driving, since the year 2012, a regular tourist traffic on some Sundays a year.
