Langarus

Langaros (Greek Λάγγαρος; † 335 BC ) was a prince of the Agrianes, an Illyrian or Thracian people.

After the Macedonian king Alexander had led the Great 335 BC a successful campaign against Balkan peoples in the area of the lower Danube, he learned on the way back to Macedonia that several Illyrian tribes had raised, Glaukias, prince of Taulantians, in conjunction with the Illyrerfürsten Kleitos, as well as the people of the Autarier. Langaros, who had been friends with Alexander during his lifetime by his father, Philip, was commissioned by Alexander in the tribal areas of the Autarier and thus tied their forces. The Macedon king could meanwhile beat Glaukias and Kleitos at the Macedonian border fortress Pelion south of Lake Ohrid. As a reward for work done by Langaros support Alexander wanted him to marry his half-sister Kynane who had been previously married with Amyntas IV, but died Langaros immediately after his expedition from an illness before the marriage could be closed.
