Langenprozelten Pumped Storage Station

The pumped storage power plant Langenprozelten is a 1976 put into use pumped storage power plant in Gemünden am Main in the Lower Franconian district of Main -Spessart ( Bavaria). Owner is the Danube hydropower AG.

Specifications

The hydropower plant has with his two Francis pump- turbines a capacity of 160 MW. The upper basin is about 300 meters altitude above the lower reservoir and is connected to it by a 1.3 km long tunnel. The maximum height is 320 m. The upper reservoir has a capacity of approximately 1.5 million cubic meters.

The task

The pumped storage plant Langenprozelten only provides traction power and is an important peak load power plant in the traction network. The mains connection is made on the 110- kV high-voltage level in the power grid of the DB energy. The maximum energy storage capacity is 950 MWh.

The pool

The jammed in the lower basin waters is the Sindersbach. He leads in the summer usually no water. Therefore, water is pumped up as needed from a further retention basin, which is 1.2 km below the lower reservoir.

Both Absperrbauwerke (upper and lower basins ) are rockfill dams with an asphalt -concrete poetry.

Accessibility

The Maintalhöhenringweg runs just a few feet at the upper reservoir by on the Sohlhöhe. To the upper reservoir can be reached also from St. Catherine's image on the public, but not paved road from Lohr about the Red Mill by Ruppertshütten over a half a mile long marked with a fox symbol path.
