Langer's lines

Skin tension lines: skin cleavage lines or even: Langer's lines ( engl. relaxed skin tension lines, short RSTL ) are through the course of the elastic and collagen fibers arranged characteristic pattern of lines. These lines can be seen only in a relaxed skin.

History

The basic research in this field has been done by the Austrian anatomist Karl Langer in 1861.

Application

Consideration is given to these lines, especially in surgery. Hautinzisonen should be made parallel to the skin tension lines to subsequently free of stresses close the wound edges, and thus to provide the best possible healing. Especially in aesthetic surgery is the knowledge of the Langer's lines of great importance.
